the freer Chinese territory of Hong Kong
It was not clear whether Zhu and Wang dumped the bodies directly in the river or if they made an attempt to bury them.
The Yahoo Inc. accounts of at least three journalists and an analyst became inaccessible over the last few weeks. They were greeted with messages saying, “We’ve detected an issue with your account” and were told to contact Yahoo, they said Tuesday. Yahoo technicians told one of the four that his account had been hacked and restored his access, but it was not clear if the other instances were related.
Three top hospital officials were sacked or suspended and the government ordered the Jining Municipal Health Bureau to make a public apology, Xinhua said.
It was not clear where problems with the Yahoo e-mail accounts originated. All four people affected are professionally focused on China and related Replica Watches issues. They said they had heard of other colleagues having similar problems, including one journalist who lost his Yahoo account entirely in January.
After further investigation, the company said it realized the changes in its search settings had occurred a week ago without disrupting its results in mainland China. That discovery led Google to conclude the trouble stemmed from changes in China’s “Great Firewall” — the nickname for the tools the government uses to block access to sites deemed to be subversive or pornographic.
Many redirected queries appeared blocked Tuesday zhjchv0331 on the Hong Kong-based search engine. Although searches for benign terms were met with results on Replica Mobile Chinese competitors such as Baidu.com and Soso.com, an error page would pop up when the same terms were typed into Google.com.hk.
Without doing anything on its end, Google said its search traffic from mainland China appeared to be flowing freely again early Wednesday morning in Beijing.
Sensitivity about Internet security has run high since Google Inc. announced in January it might leave China after a series of cyberattacks and complaints about censorship. Last week, Google made a partial retreat, shutting down its mainland-based search engine and redirecting those queries offshore, to the freer Chinese territory of Hong Kong.
Local residents and firefighters recovered the bodies Monday after they were discovered under a bridge spanning the Guangfu River on the outskirts of Jining in Shandong province.
Interviews with residents who made Replica Vertu the grisly find were broadcast on the Web site of the Shandong Broadcasting Company. One said he thought a body was a toy, but then he spotted several others. Another expressed concern because the river is a source of drinking water for villagers living nearby.
Google initially blamed
Yahoo e-mail accounts belonging to foreign journalists appeared to have been hacked and Google’s Chinese search engine was intermittently blocked Tuesday, the latest troubles in China’s heavily censored Internet market.
Yahoo, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., issued a statement Tuesday condemning all hacking attacks and vowed to “take appropriate action in the Replica Louis Vuitton event of any kind of breach.”
Analysts have been watching closely to see if China retaliates for Google’s high-profile departure from the mainland search engine market.
Google initially blamed the trouble on an internal revision that inserted some coding that the company thought had caused China’s automated censors to block material that normally wouldn’t be prohibited.
But Google backed off its original explanation within a few hours.
The bodies of 21 babies, some with hospital identification tags around their tiny ankles, washed ashore on a river in eastern China and two mortuary workers were detained for allegedly dumping them.
Infants who die from disease are often zhjchv0331 abandoned or buried in unmarked graves, not being old enough to be formally considered part of the family. But those deaths usually occur in small numbers.
News footage Tuesday showed the Replica Mobile babies — at least one of whom was stuffed in a yellow plastic bag marked “medical waste” — strewn along a dirt riverbank near a highway overpass. A few wore diapers. All were caked in mud. “We will continue to monitor what is going on, but for the time being this issue seems to be resolved,” Google said.
Web searches weren’t the only Google service bogging down in China. The company reported that access to its mobile services in the country were “partially blocked” this week after experiencing no issues last week. Google didn’t provide a reason for the mobile disruption.
In China, most families are permitted to have only one or two children and a traditional preference for sons runs strong. The abandoning, aborting and killing of newborn baby girls is common in rural China, although gender-selection abortions are illegal.
Clifford Coonan, China correspondent Vertu Mobile for The Independent and the Irish Times newspapers, said he received the “issue with your account” notice when he logged in Tuesday. Another reporter said she received repeated error messages from Yahoo last month.
“He said somebody had hacked into my registration details,” said the analyst, who would not give his name, citing the sensitivity of the issue. The analyst said he was concerned hackers may have also accessed his inbox.
Yahoo’s e-mail accounts
Some of the babies appeared several months old, while the official Xinhua News Agency said the bodies included fetuses.
The reports did not give the replica handbags number of girls or boys. Xinhua said the bodies of the 21 babies were cremated, though it was not clear whether they had all been identified.
Hospital ID tags on eight of the babies helped investigators trace them back to the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University, Xinhua reported.
Hospital mortuary workers Zhu Zhenyu and Wang Zhijun were sacked and taken away by police, Xinhua said, citing Jining government spokesman Gong Zhenhua. The babies’ families had paid the pair to dispose of the bodies, but they instead dumped them at the river.
More than 1,000 comments were posted on zhjchv0331 Netease, a Chinese news Web site, within hours of reports on the discovery of the bodies.
Coonan wondered whether he was just part of a broad attack against Yahoo’s e-mail accounts, or if he had been specifically targeted.
“I’d just be interested to see if anyone in the business community or outside of journalism and academia has had the same problem, then it might be less sinister,” he said. “It’s obviously annoying but if it’s just journalists and academics, that’s scary.”
“It exposes a serious loophole in the Replica Mobile Phones hospital’s management and indicates a lack of ethics and legal awareness of some hospital staff,” Gong was quoted as saying. “It exerts a very negative impact on society and teaches us a profound lesson.”
Reports said the babies ranged in age from newborns to several months old. One of the bluish-green identification tags visible in the news video says, “Boy; mother’s name is Man Hongmei; born in April 2009.”
An official from the information office of China’s Health Ministry said she was not aware of the case, while telephone calls to the Jining Health Bureau and the Shandong Health Bureau rang unanswered Tuesday.
The Western analyst said he was locked out of his account for four or five days, until he spoke with a Yahoo representative Monday who went through the security questions and restarted it.
headed the agency before his election as president in 2000
Added Alevtina Rogatova, a 23-year-old student who was on the same train: “I smelled burning plastic and heard cries of ‘let the wounded through.’”
Amateur video on Russian TV showed wounded and possibly dead commuters on the floor of the smoke-filled Lubyanka station. One video showed gruesome images of dead passengers sprawled inside a mangled subway car and a bloody leg lying on a station platform.
Passengers streamed out zhjchv0330 of the Replica Watches stations, many crying and making frantic calls on cell phones. The wounded were put on ambulances and helicopters, some with their heads wrapped in bloody bandages, as sirens wailed.
Traffic was paralyzed as large sections of downtown were closed off. Some gypsy cab drivers jacked up their rates for panicky passengers trying to get to work, drawing a harsh rebuke from Orthodox Patriarch Kirill later in the day.
The ornate Moscow subway system is the world’s second-busiest after Tokyo’s, carrying around 7 million passengers on an average workday, and is a key element in running the sprawling and traffic-choked city.
The last confirmed terrorist attack in Moscow was in August 2004, when a suicide bomber blew herself up outside a subway station, killing 10 people. Chechen rebels claimed responsibility.
World leaders, including President Barack Obama, condemned the subway attacks. Obama telephoned Medvedev to convey the condolences of the United States.
Monday’s first explosion Vertu Mobile took place just before 8 a.m. at the Lubyanka station in central Moscow, beneath the notorious headquarters of the Federal Security Service or FSB, the KGB’s main successor agency. The FSB is a symbol of power under Putin, a former KGB officer who headed the agency before his election as president in 2000.
“They tell them that if they become martyrs, they will join their husbands, brothers and fathers,” he said. “And they also persuade them that the Russians as a nation share a collective guilt.”
“I was getting off the train when I heard the sound of an explosion and saw clouds of smoke,” said Yegor Barbatunov, 29. “The (Park Kultury) station was jammed Replica Vertu with people trying to get out, but there was no panic. I saw a young man walking past, blood pouring off his head and neck and trickling to the floor.”
In London and Madrid, two cities hit by terrorist attacks, officials said there were no immediate plans to tighten security.
Islamic insurgency in the Caucasus
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who built much of his political capital by directing a fierce war against Chechen separatists a decade ago, promised to track down and kill the organizers of what he called a “disgusting” crime.
“The terrorists will be destroyed,” he said on national television.
In a televised meeting with President Replica Louis Vuitton Dmitry Medvedev, Federal Security Service head Alexander Bortnikov said the remains of the two bombers pointed to a Caucasus connection. “We will continue the fight against terrorism unswervingly and to the end,” Medvedev said.
Dozens of contributors zhjchv0330 to three Web sites affiliated with al-Qaida wrote comments in praise of Monday’s attacks. One site opened a special page to “receive congratulations” for the Chechen rebels who “started the dark tunnel attacks in the apostate countries,” and all wished for God to accept the two women as martyrs.
“Don’t forget Russia’s crimes of genocide in the Caucasus and Chechnya,” said one writer. “The battle has been shifted to the heart of Moscow,” another wrote.
Ignatenko said Islamic militants in the Caucasus often recruit women whose relatives were killed by Russian security services.
Umarov, the Chechen rebel leader, has relied on al-Qaida’s financial support and has several al-Qaida emissaries in his entourage, said Alexander Ignatenko, the head of the independent Moscow-based Institute for Religion and Politics, who has closely followed the Islamic insurgency in the Caucasus.
“Al-Qaida has established a presence in the North Caucasus, like they did in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Somalia and Europe,” Ignatenko told The Associated Press. The militants’ links with al-Qaida also are recognized by other experts on terrorism.
At least 38 people were killed and more than 60 wounded in Monday morning’s blasts, the first such attacks in Moscow in six years.
At 4 p.m., the two subway stations reopened and dozens boarded waiting trains.
“It’s really terrifying,” said Vasily Replica Mobile Vlastinin, 16. “It’s become dangerous to ride the metro, but I’ll keep taking the metro. You have to get to school, to college, to work somehow.”
The bombings showed that the beleaguered rebels are still strong enough to inflict harm on an increasingly assertive Russia, and they followed a warning last month from Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov that “the war is coming to their cities.”
patrols in the system
MOSCOW – Terror returned to the heart of Russia, with two deadly suicide bombings on the Moscow subway at rush hour, including an attack at the station beneath the headquarters of the secret police.
Russian police have killed several Islamic militant leaders in the North Caucasus recently, including one last week in the Kabardino-Balkariya region, which raised fears of retaliatory strikes and escalating bloodshed by the militants.
As smoke billowed through the subway tunnels not replica handbags far from the Kremlin and dazed survivors streamed out of the vast transportation system, al-Qaida-affiliated Web sites were abuzz with celebration of the attacks by the two female suicide bombers.
Militants in the Caucasus zhjchv0330 have declared the creation of an Islamic state as their top goal. Radical Islamic sects have spread throughout the Caucasus region and parts of Russia as well, with religious schools set up. In Chechnya, Kremlin-backed strongman Ramzan Kadyrov has conducted a campaign to impose Islamic values in an effort to blunt the appeal of hard-line Islamic separatists.
About 45 minutes later, a second blast hit the Park Kultury station on the same subway line, which is near renowned Gorky Park. In both cases, the bombs were detonated as the trains pulled into the stations and the doors were opening.
“Any desire to profit on the grief of others brings nothing but grief in return,” Patriarch Kirill said after a liturgy.
Both stations had been scrubbed clean. Holes left by shrapnel in the granite were the only reminder of the day’s tragic bombings.
In February 2004, a suicide bomber from the North Caucasus attacked a subway train during the morning rush hour, killing more than 40 people and wounding more than 100.
While the Russian army battered Chechen rebels a decade ago, the separatists continue to move through the region’s mountains and forests with comparative ease despite security sweeps by federal forces and police under the control of local leaders loyal to the Kremlin.
Rights groups say that abductions, torture Replica Mobile Phones and killings of young men suspected of militant links by Russian security forces have helped swell the rebels’ ranks.
New York increased security in its transportation network with officers assigned to subways overnight held in place so they overlapped with the day tour. Special units also were assigned to transit facilities. Washington, D.C., Metro police conducted random inspections of stations and rail yards. Atlanta’s public transit system said its police department was increasing the number of officers and patrols in the system.
Indian audiences just assumed
Google now has set up shop in Hong Kong, offering a Chinese language service without censorship. A new Google “score card” tells users which of its services are still available in China and which may be “obstructed.” Google’s YouTube video site and blogging service, for example, continue to be completely blocked in China.
China also continues to censor Google’s search results using its “Great Firewall” system that screens out most Web content the government finds objectionable. But now Replica Watches there’s a big difference: Google no longer cooperates as a willing partner. The Chinese government’s role in limiting what its citizens know is plainly exposed through the score card.
Will other information businesses follow Google’s lead? Go Daddy, the world’s largest Internet domain name seller, says it is pulling out. And a report from India says Dell Corporation is considering moving more of its Asian operations from China to India.
The film, which opened in Indian cinemas last week with an adults-only rating, has courted controversy with blurred visuals of a naked woman and voyeuristic zhjchv0329 sequences in its trailers.
Director Dibakar Banerjee says “Love Sex aur Dhokha” is more about a change in attitudes than it is about sex.
He says the film explores the lack of privacy in the modern world — one where even mobile phones can capture, and broadcast, intimate moments.
“What my camera is doing is that it’s recording a story that is changing in front of the camera,” says Banerjee. “Earlier, sex used to be behind closed doors but now that is changing.”
A decade ago, when a coy couple were about to kiss on screen, the camera would glide to two flowers brushing against each other or birds pecking at each other’s beaks. Indian audiences just assumed the couple had done the deed.
the two co-defendants
Sejima, 54, and Nishizawa, 44, join Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas and Renzo Piano in receiving the top honor in the field in recognition of the art museums, university buildings and designer-label fashion boutiques they have designed in Japan, the United States and Europe.
“We want to make architecture that people like to use,” said Sejima, who likened the pair’s structures to public plazas, where visitors can roam freely in groups or find comfortable spots to spend time on their own. “The jury somehow appreciated our way of making architecture.”
The Pritzker jury of architects, academics, writers and designers praised Sejima and Nishizawa for designing structures that blend into their surroundings to provide zhjchv0329 unassuming backdrops for the activities occurring in their midst.
Gonzalez still faces a hearing in June on Replica Louis Vuitton what restitution he might have to pay. Woodlock indicated that Heartland was the only defendant in the case before him that is seeking restitution.
Authorities said Gonzalez amassed $2.8 million he used to buy a Miami condo, a car, Rolex watches and a Tiffany ring for his girlfriend. They said Gonzalez and two foreign co-defendants would drive past retailers with a laptop computer, tapping into those with vulnerable wireless Internet signals. The trio would then install “sniffer programs” that picked off credit and debit card numbers as they moved through a retailer’s computers before trying to sell the numbers overseas, authorities said.
Prosecutors have said the two co-defendants, identified in court documents as “Hacker 1″ and “Hacker 2,” are fugitives.
New York’s lower east side
With government subsidies, Chinese animation companies tripled their presence at this year’s Tokyo anime fair even as the overall number of exhibitors declined. The four-day event through Sunday, one of the world’s biggest anime-related trade shows and festivals, featured a “China-Japan Anime Summit” along with multiple China-themed lectures.
“China is a big market, and everybody is trying to get in,” said Jimmy Tse, chief executive of Top Art Investment Ltd., which makes the panda Komazawa craved. “And the Chinese people, they are starting to think, ‘How come I’m manufacturing for someone else?’ Why are we not creating anything ourselves?’”
The duo said they don’t see themselves zhjchv0329 as working within any sort of distinct Japanese architectural tradition. But they acknowledged being influenced by the austere construction methods, lightweight materials and porous boundaries between inside and outside space that characterize traditional Japanese buildings.
“If you see Japanese temples made of wood, you can replica handbags see how the architecture is made up,” Nishizawa said. “They have a clear construction and transparency and they are quite simple. I think this is one of the big things that we are influenced by.”
In their citation, the Pritzker jury also named the pair’s New Museum of Contemporary Art, a mid-rise stack of unevenly sized, white metal blocks that sit atop a transparent glass base on a scruffy street in New York’s lower east side.
We have turned words into action
“We have turned words into action,” Obama said at the White House after completing the agreement in a morning phone call with Medvedev. The White House said it was their 14th meeting or phone call on the issue.
The United States hopes the 10-year agreement will lead to better cooperation on other issues, such as a unified U.S.-Russian stance against the development of nuclear weapons by Iran.
“The existence of strategic defensive Replica Watches systems capable of neutralizing strategic offensive weapons will be taken into account,” Lavrov told reporters.
Sealing the deal gave Obama a badly needed foreign policy victory. His advisers hoped it would help lend momentum to his overall agenda by demonstrating strength on both the international and domestic fronts. It came soon after Congress approved his top domestic priority, the health care overhaul.
Clinton also jestingly offered the Russian government help in getting the treaty through the Duma. “President Obama has said he will send Rahm Emanuel to Moscow” if necessary, she joked, referring to Obama’s blunt-speaking chief of staff. “We all endorsed that offer.”
Clinton emphasized the verification mechanism in the zhjchv0327 treaty — a key demand of the U.S. that was resisted by Russia and was one of the sticking points that delayed completion of the deal. It will “reduce the chance for misunderstandings and miscalculations,” she told reporters.
“With this agreement, the United States and Russia — the two largest nuclear powers in the world — also send a clear signal that we intend to lead,” Obama said.
McConnell said Friday that GOP senators will attempt to determine whether the treaty’s provisions would be verifiable and would maintain America’s full ability to defend itself.
